Reverend Sister Maria Ugonna Rita Igbo is a Sister of the Order of Daughters of Divine Love. She has always shown interest in how to address the plight of the poor right from her teenage years. Her love for the less privileged propelled her vocational choice, where she has been exhibiting self-sacrifice, while promoting the love of Christ. She believes strongly in using education as an instrument to address poverty in the lives of poor individuals. In an attempt to address this in her way, she delved into research on the subject of, the ‘Preferential Option for the Poor’. This research earned her a doctorate from the Institute of Education, University College London, and these efforts are the core of this book, titled, Catholic Schools and the Interests of the Poor. She is equally a holder of Masters of Arts (MA) Degree in Renaissance and Romantic Literature from the University of Liverpool, England, and a Bachelor of Arts (BAED) Degree in Education/English from Abia State University, Uturu, Nigeria. All these academic attainments laid the foundation of her conquest as a Religious Sister. She resides in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria, and is currently the Principal of Regina Pacis College, a Catholic Secondary Institution for girls, where she promotes humanity in the service of the Lord.
